A Couple's Love Land (ふたりの愛ランド Futari no Ai Rando) is the first mission of Metal Slug 3.
Mission Synopsis[]
The Rebels' first base of operations is in Pallas Island, a once pristine location now rife with mutated creatures above land and underwater thanks to a nuclear accident. Although it takes the entire afternoon, the heroes are able to clear out the Rebels through the whole island. Their exit out by a makeshift bridge is interrupted by a huge hermit crab with a huge tank on its back.
Locations[]
- Beach: The heroes are dropped in a trashed beach side with mutated crabs and locusts. Several crashed nuclear missiles can be seen in the background. The beach leads to a dense jungle.
- Infested Rivers: The jungle's main river is full of Flying Killers. POWs are seen hanging over the river. Two Parachuetrucks block the Borobune Slug from traversing, and Rebels ambush by swinging down from vines. The section ends by Flying Killers jumping from the river and flying towards the heroes. Shoot them down for ammo crates.
- Sunken Ship "Asia Maru": By jumping over a gap, the heroes can enter a semi-functioning ship filled with mutated crabs. Utan can be found here, and he helps the players for this section only.
- Underwater Trench: A deep trench entered by using the Slug Mariner floating on a small puddle next to a wrecked ship. The descent is shooting down pesky jellyfish and passing through four collared Enormous Moray lunging from their cages. After fighting off two Ohumein-Congas and crossing a volcanic eruption to the other side of the trench, the ascent is fighting against the Rebels' watercraft.
- Bridge: All three routes lead to a bridge under a sunset where the Huge Hermit is fought.
- If the player rides the Borobune Slug, then it'll crash and reveal an SV-001 Type-R for the player to ride on. After a few seconds, the Huge Hermit then quickly emerges from under the boat and destroys everything over it. The odd-numbered POWs give out weapons in this order: Heavy Machine Gun, Enemy Chaser, Drop Shot, Iron Lizard, and a Big Heavy Machine Gun.
- If the player travels through the other routes, then a couple of Slugnoids are found on the bridge. The Huge Hermit enters by walking from the left. While the first four odd-numbered POWs gives out the same weapons, the last POW gives out a Super Grenade instead.
Prisoner Locations[]
Main Route[]
Infested Rivers[]
There are 7 POWs in this route. It is possible for POWs to despawn due to sprite limits.
Sunken Ship[]
There is only one POW in this route.
Underwater Trench[]
There are 4 POWs in this route with the first three POWs being inside metal crates. Taking this route means only 3 POWs are rescued in the main route.
Trivia[]
- The player is able to not encounter any Rebel infantry and vehicles in this mission by taking the Sunken Ship route.
- A Mini-UFO can be seen far away in the sky at the very beginning of the mission.
- The entire Slug Mariner route is a reference to In The Hunt with the volcanic tunnel related to the game's Deep Dark Sea mission.
- The song "Marine Diver" uses cues from Air Duel's 3rd and 10th mission's theme and Gunforce II's area music in its 2nd and 3rd missions.
