Hong Kong (Chinese:香港) is a city in East Asia, located in southern China. Return to Hong-Kong, the fourth mission in Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X, and Chinese Impact, the third mission in Metal Slug 6, take place here.

History

Background

Hong Kong is famous for contributing a significant portion to the Rebel Army's commercial ventures. It is among the faction's primary industrial centers, being the site of many factories where weapons and vehicles are intensively produced for the rebels' disposal.

Event of Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X

Numerous food stores line up the main street in the mission it is set in, which can be destroyed for extra points. As a side effect of its bustling economy, the city has had an exponential increase in population, resulting in the establishment of slums stretching for many miles, where the Big Shiee lies in wait for the player.

Event of Metal Slug 6

In the Metal Slug 6, the most important event taking place on Hong Kong is the attack of the Invaders, when the Invaders attacked the city defended by the Rebels and some MV-280C's stationed in the city.

Attack of the Invaders

Several IVFO's crashed into the city's heavily populated downtown, causing extensive damage to the buildings and skyscrapers and killing or injuring many people. The soldiers arrive to the place, but felt to their horror because they didn't know how to counter-attack the Invaders.

To their horror, the IVFO's contained large amounts of Invaders, which escaped soon after impact and spread through the city. The Rebels tried to fight back but they were poorly-equipped, with only a few MV-280C's stationed in the city.

The Invaders' main WMD, the Brain Robot, awaits the soldiers deep inside the sewers of this city.

Trivia

Metal Slug 2 / Metal Slug X

• In Metal Slug 2, while approaching the shanty town area of the level, a commercial airplane can be seen lifting off into the sky in the background. This is replaced by a view of a gang of hovering Mini-UFOs in Metal Slug X.
• Enemy formations in this stage differ noticeably between both Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X:
  • In the dry creek area of the stage, players will have to deal with Ferry Boats in 2, while in X, players will have to contend with wells containing Rebel Missiles and Rocket Divers.
  • Mini-UFOs make a scene before the players approach the Big Shiee in Metal Slug X, which would explain how Hong Kong was captured with ease by the Rebel Army in-universe.
• The creek traversed halfway through the level can be shot at to reveal a small school of fish worth around a thousand points.
• In Metal Slug X, near the end of the level the Martians will make a two row formation descending slowly, referencing Space invaders, if the player shoots them all, they will get awarded 20,000 points.

Metal Slug 6

• Several businesses in the city have the name "毛伝" (máo yún), one of which "毛伝電影公司" uses the Rebel Army symbol as its logo. "毛伝" can be pronounced as "Mou Den" in Japanese, implying that they were named after Donald Morden and possibly fronts for the Rebel Army.
