Monument of Depression is the second mission from Metal Slug 2/X.
Walkthrough[]
This is the series' first mummy mission. In Metal Slug 2, the mission starts at night, while in Metal Slug X, it starts in broad daylight outside. Right at the start, Arabian Infantries stand guard and then charge. Destroy the Danger Barrel to proceed in the tomb. Miners are seen picking up treasure and those deeper inside are running out in terror. It looks like the whole place is infested with Mummies. These can turn players into mummies which can be recovered by picking up a vial. The player walks up a sandy hill eliminating the Mummies and its generators.
In the second section, Rumi Aikawa is immediately seen walking away. Soon after, an old corpse lies near a corner; stab it for a 50000-point gem, then run away from its dynamite. After that, just continue climbing up the pillar, picking the weapon of your choice to finish the mummies, and attempting to save Scott Amundsen Jr. from being mummified. At the end of the tower lies various treasure boxes and a Slugnoid; climb further up to battle the Aeshi Nero.
A bit after the two Bastet-like statues, the player can take a detour and climb on top of said statues. The rightmost statue has a box with a lamp inside. Wait for a few puffs of smoke and a Genie will appear and drop a shower of coins. A second lamp is found by shooting above where the first lamp was at.
In Metal Slug X, Mummies have a greater variety of attacks. Dog Mummies debut in this version.
Prisoner Locations[]
There are 14 POWs in this mission for both games.

Trivia[]
- This is one of the very few missions in the series where the main Rebel Infantry and their weapons (barring the mission boss) do not make any appearance.
- This is also the only mission in Metal Slug 2/X without a mini-boss (if The Keesi II is included).
