Metal Slug Wiki

Return to Hong-Kong is the fourth mission of Metal Slug 2/X.

Mission Synopsis[]

This Chinese urban area has been taken over by the Rebels for use in their work. The heroes drop in to liberate the city.

In Metal Slug 2, this is the only mission where the heroes can become fat by eating a mass quantity of food items. Various food items come out of destroyed buildings, ferries, civilian cars, the waters, enemies and rewards from rescued prisoners in both games.

In Metal Slug X, in addition to the Rebels, the players will fight the Mars People in their Mini UFOs towards the end of the stage. The time of day was changed from sunset to morning.

Locations[]

  • Downtown Hong-Kong: This is where the buildings and cars can be destroyed for items. The Morden Bus blocks the way to the dry creek.
  • Dry Creek: This is where the Ferry Boat is stationed in Metal Slug 2, and where the Rocket Divers' wells are built in Metal Slug X.
  • Wet Creek: The waters in this area can be shot for fish. Hyakutaro Ichimonji can also be found here.
  • Shanty Town: An incline of houses that leads to the city's slum that lies outskirts. Martians show up as enemies earlier inside Mini-UFOs in Metal Slug X. This is where the Big Shiee awaits for the player at the end.

Prisoner Locations[]

Extra POWs drop in during the fight against the Big Shiee.

Metal Slug 2[]

There are 15 POWs in this mission.

Metal Slug X[]

There are 18 POWs in this mission.

Presentation[]

This mission is notable for having major differences in its environment. There is less detail in Metal Slug X such as less cracks on the walls, some windows not reflecting, walls being straightened, and less products inside the markets. Other changes are more noticeable:

  • The sign bearing the Rebel Army insignia at the start had the insignia removed.
  • The blue sign with text starting with "Supermarket" was replaced with "Market".
  • The road was widened and made more barren.
  • Over the first crate are two signs: the red one saying "The roof" and a wooden arrow hanging from a nail saying "Let's go!". These were removed and new a signpost for Bus #13 was added along with a low detail poster on a post.
  • The leftmost sign was moved closer to the wall and changed its text.
  • The signs on the first tall building (a restaurant) after the short ones have changed.
  • The restaurant became a hot pot place.
  • In Metal Slug 2, the theater after the restaurant is showing a poster for "Camera 2". In Metal Slug X, it is "Camera 3".
  • The entire wall was made cleaner by removing all of the signs and covering most of the cracks. The camera scrolls down much earlier to compensate for the barren visual.
  • After the bus, the wood propped against the back wall was removed, and the sharp dirt incline was changed to a cliff.
  • The cones and safety railing on the road were removed.
  • The road and the pipes were more wrecked in Metal Slug X.
  • After the fight at the oil rig, the large building just before the transition had its profile changed (angled appearance to straight on appearance) and signs removed.

Trivia[]

  • The boats read "Small Mining (unintelligible character)", and the well reads "Small Heart (unintelligible character)"
