The Ring Laser Mecha (also known as the Utom[1] in Japan) is an enemy in the Metal Slug series. They are the main defense forces of the Mars People.
Information[]
The Ring Laser Mecha is a robotic unit controlled by an organic brain with robotic arms which are redundantly used to control the robot's front sticks. Their weapon consists of a deadly laser beam which can form up a ring-like appearance. These rings can form vertically and horizontally.
The brain is likely that of a Martian.
Upgrades and Variants[]
Independent[]
Ring Laser Mecha: They are quite slow to respond to attacks and maneuver clear of them. They fire rings of telekinetic force at the player that can be jumped through. Hit them fast and watch their brain splatter all over the place once their protective dome is shattered.
Red Ring Laser Mecha: They are more powerful and faster than the original.
Blue Ring Laser Mecha: Much more durable than the original and has more consistent attacks.
Golden Ring Laser Mecha: Even more durable than the blue one, sharing the same standard attack pattern but can also generate electrical rings like the Professor's personal mecha to capture enemies. |
Vehicular[]
Proyutom: The Professor's personal Ring Laser Mecha which has been customized for him to fit inside. It can call in circular beam saws to cut up enemies in battle along with the standard combat equipment of normal Ring Laser Mechas.
Golden Professor: A golden variant of the Professor's personal Ring Laser Mecha. It is even more durable than the original, has a circular beam saw, laser turret and can also shoot electrical rings to capture enemies.
Proyutom (Amadeus): The Professor's work machine hijacked by Bubu. It attacks by firing ring lasers and electric balls. |
Trivia[]
- They are somewhat reminiscent of the Daleks from the Doctor Who TV series in that they are organic intelligences driving a mech suit.
- In the Professor's official art, his Proyutom is controlled with a NeoGeo arcade stick and buttons.
