The Slug Armor, also known as Heavy Armor (ヘビーアーマー Hebī Āmā) [1] in Japan, is an advanced variant of the Rebel LV Armor introduced in Metal Slug 7 / XX.

Information[]

The Rebel Army saw that they needed to improve upon the LV Armor, and so their engineers prepared a new version with better armor capable of resisting heavier weapon fire. It now has a 60mm MTS-S/A Chain gun integrated into its arm, as well as a 100mm cannon on the back. However, it cannot swap weapons like the older LV Armor could, and because of the weight of its new weapons, the heavier Slug Armor cannot double-jump. The Rebels could only make one unit due to a shortage of resources, and ironically, it was stolen by the Regular Army before its creators could deploy it.

In gameplay, the Slug Armor boasts infinite Chain gun ammo. It is able to fire diagonally in a similar manner as the Slug Gunner's Minigun and Heavy Machine Gun, improving its line of fire immensely, although it still cannot turn its body around (except off-screen) and can only shoot enemies in front of it. The Slug Armor moves much faster on foot, and while crouching can additionally use its hover pack to slide charge, potentially running over enemies. Although it can still move freely move on the ground and fire its weapons while crouched, it cannot jump nor attack upwards until it stands upright again.

In Metal Slug 7's third mission, the player will only be able to use this vehicle against Crablops' segmented body after destroying the Super Vehicle Crate that contains it.

However, in Metal Slug XX's third mission, the Slug Armor swaps places with the Slugnoid, found on a moving platform near the start of the mission (and ditched at the end of the elevator ride if it survives that long), while the Slugnoid is instead found in the vehicle crate prior to facing the boss. It also appears alongside the SV-001 in the game's Final Mission only when there are two players; just the latter Slug is available when playing alone.

Trivia[]

  • It also appears in Metal Slug Defense in version 1.24.0, using Stampede via its hover engine as a standard attack, and its Vulcan and cannon as special attacks. Despite retaining the logo of the Rebel Army, it is treated as a Regular Army unit.
    • The Slug Armor, Claw Units, Heavy D!, and Brian Battler are the only Metal Slug units with a dashing-type attack as their standard attacks in Metal Slug Defense.
    • When destroyed, the animation shows it try to use the hover engine (but fail), and then losing its left arm before exploding.
