The Weapon Stock is a gameplay element introduced in Metal Slug 6.

Synopsis[]

The Weapon Stock allows players to hold on to two separate weapons at once without the worry of accidentally picking up extra weapons and use the pistol without wasting weapon ammo. The player can switch weapons at the press of a button going at the order of Left Slot, Right Slot, and Pistol. A player also can switch weapons when on a Slug.

When switching back to the pistol, the character can be seen picking it up from their bags. Switching to a weapon has the character instantly have the weapon on hand.

Weapon Slot Mechanics[]

When the player picks up a weapon, it is stored in the Left Slot. If there's a weapon already at the Left Slot, it is pushed to the Right Slot. When a third weapon is picked up and both slots are filled:

  • If one special weapon is currently in use, then the unused one is replaced. The picked up weapon is moved to the Left Slot, and the previously used weapon is moved to the Right Slot.
  • If the player is using their pistol, then the weapon is put into the Left Slot, the left-side weapon is moved to the Right Slot, and the right-side weapon is removed.

It is noted that the Big weapons are considered separate weapons. Picked up weapons are automatically selected and ready to fire.

Tossing Weapons[]

A player can throw away weapon crates by pressing Up + Special + Grenade.

Metal Slug 6 and Metal Slug 7/XX has differences on how tossing works:

  • In Metal Slug 6, a weapon cannot be tossed if it's low on ammo. In Metal Slug 7/XX, a weapon can be tossed regardless of ammo count.
  • Multiple picked up copies of the same weapon are stored as separate crates in Metal Slug 6 resulting in multiple tosses. In Metal Slug 7/XX, these are all stored as one single crate and is thus tossed once.
  • Metal Slug 7/XX shows how much ammo a tossed weapon has.

Character Bonuses[]

  • Fio starts each life with a Heavy Machine Gun in her weapon stock. In Easy/Beginner Mode, she replaces the normal Heavy Machine Gun with a Big Heavy Machine Gun.
  • Leona retains her stored weapons upon death. She loses them when continuing or starting a new mission.
